Both LTSC and LTSB refer to long-term support channels for Microsoft Windows operating systems. However, there is a crucial difference between them:

LTSB (Long-Term Servicing Branch):

This was the older term used for a long-term support channel in Windows.
It received security updates for 10 years from its release date.

It did not receive any new features or functionalities during its support lifecycle.

It was primarily aimed at requiring stability and extended security support with minimal changes.

LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel):

This is the current term used for long-term support channels in Windows 10 and Windows 11 Enterprise editions.

It also receives security updates for 10 years from its release date.

However, unlike LTSB, LTSC does receive new security features and bug fixes as part of its cumulative updates during its support lifecycle.

It essentially offers a stable and consistent platform with enhanced security through updates, making it suitable for various scenarios beyond specialized embedded devices.

In simple terms:

LTSB was a strictly no-frills, security-focused option.

LTSC offers long-term security with some essential features and bug fixes along the way.
